Due to a printing orders snafu, I have extra copies of the first issue of my zine, V’Eilu! As such, physical copies are on discount while extra copies last!

Also, the second issue is now on sale for preorder(physical and/or electronic copies) at a discount as well! Order and pass it along :-)

For those who haven’t seen it yet, V’Eilu is my zine focused on Orthodox Jewish voices and social issues.

Thank you, and happy reading!

Whenever I see a post about how bad gatekeeping is I always have to narrow my eyes and try to gather from context clues whether the post is about LGBTQ label discourse or a goy getting pissy that mean old Jews told them they can’t learn Kabbalah 🙄

something that has been on my mind recently is that fact that so much of antisemitism within lgbt spaces and/or leftist spaces comes from people who consider themselves to be allies to the jewish community. particularly white goyim who see themselves as allies are actually unwilling to listen to jewish people because they believe they’re already doing enough through simply stating they support us. i believe that most of their antisemitism is not intended to cause harm, and rather comes as a genuine attempt to do the right thing and show support another marginalized group. here are some examples that i have noticed all from goyim who call themselves allies

  • asking jewish people they’ve just met about zionism after learning they’re jewish when their conversations had nothing to do with israel
  • continuously sharing memes/rhetoric with nazi origins even after being informed of their meaning because “the joke isnt antisemitic”
  • constant use of antisemitic language to discuss transmisogyny after jewish people have asked them to stop
  • critiquing media for only the ways it negatively affects white lgbt folks and disregarding antisemitism/islamophobia/racism/ableism etc
  • using the word “religion” as a synonym for christianity, often framing “all religion as bad” in conversations about religious trauma
  • claiming that jewish women (especially orthodox) contribute to their own oppression through religious observance

again, these all come from people who claim to be allies to the jewish community. goyim, i am not saying you’re a bad person or inherently evil if you have done any of the above, but rather calling attention to the fact that your words and actions may have been harmful to jewish people, as well as other religious minorities, even when that was not your intent. if you call yourself an ally, it shows us that you recognize our oppression and will support us. when a jewish person addresses antisemitism, the best thing you can do is listen to them, educate yourself, and either change your behavior or call it out in others. allyship is an action. take the time to listen to us, don’t speak for us or over us.

I think the only person I’ve met in real life with 100% career satisfaction was this gal I knew who was a presenter at a children’s science museum and delivered every line like she was running a WWE match. Every time you passed the room where she was giving a presentation, you’d hear something like “WHO’S READY FOR CEPHALOPODS?!?” and the kids would go absolutely nuts cheering.

I will never forget when I made a post about problems with antisemitism and islamophobia in the lgbt+ community and some jackass just commented the names of a few shitty people who are muslim or jewish to try to “prove” to me that they’re justified in hating us for our respective religions. can’t say I remember all the people they listed, but I know they mentioned ben shapiro. oh, and the fucking taliban

now i can’t believe I have to say this, and it might come as a shock to antisemites, but the existence of ben shapiro doesn’t mean jewish people are evil or inherently homophobic, and he certainly doesn’t speak for all jewish people

likewise, and I can’t believe I have to say this either, the taliban doesn’t speak for all muslims, and their homophobic stance isn’t representative of every muslim person

can you imagine if I started saying all atheists are violent because the unabomber was an atheist? do you understand how ridiculous that is?

but if you genuinely believe that a marginalized group can be represented by the worst members of said group, I really don’t know what to tell you. except that you are fanning the flames of religious discrimination, and your idealogy gets us killed.

anyway, antisemites and islamophobes are not welcome here

jewish and muslim solidarity forever!

I know people don’t get this but orthodox Judaism is not fundamentalist Christianity minus Jesus. Stop acting like it is, it makes you look at best like a child and at worst like a malicious actor.

I loved it when the Barbie movie was like.. “this Barbie is having an existential crisis right now and she’s supposed to look kinda ugly to reflect that, but we hired Margot Robbie so.. y'know, use your imagination”

I was also glad they didn’t take that opportunity to make her “look ugly.” Aside from the fact that that would detract from the message of the movie, I find that a lot of “make her look ugly” choices in Hollywood end up being so Eurocentric and targeting ethnic minorities.
